June 25th, Part 2: The Nasty, Brutish and Short Life of the North Precinct AZ

Coming at you from the newly-established AZ in North PDX and I have to say it's looking good! Solid barricades, good size. More relaxed and less rushed than the short-lived PKAZ#DefendPDX #PortlandProtests #PortlandProtest #RoseCityJustice #blacklivesmatter #pdxprotests

A protester instructs the Portland Police to disperse. "This has been declared an unlawful fascist assembly. This is our precinct now. Go to your homes"

Portland Police Bureau loudly declaring an unlawful assembly. The protesters are highly unimpressed with their orders to vacate

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

Update: the cops have broken through the barricades. Fladhbang, now a tense standoff. A dumpster fire in the distance. A LOT of pointing crowd control weapons at the crowd: I will upload footage later

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

On the move again. I like this group. A good mix of sensible and reckless. We melted away from that line and reformed a block away.

Obviously there is a dumpster fire pic.twitter.com/i9zQNHrgAe

The police back away! And we follow

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

It is 2020 and I just realized how profoundly familiar the smell of a dumpster fire is to me now pic.twitter.com/9XTiMw6v9i

The crowd is retrieving the barricades and dragging them back to the intersection. The calm, leaderless action of this group makes my whole heart sing

The unlawful assembly order goes out once more. Everyone braces for impact

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

Not much has changed. A child is dancing on one of the few dumpsters not on fire. Tires burn in the intersection

One of the dumpsters begins to burn a shop. Protesters run to put it out. It's not clear whether they'll be able to do so

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

Police, sorry for the typo. It has been a while since I have tasted the spiciness of the gas

Pretty sure that's illegal

They full on chased us. We ran. They retreated. We follow. Dumpsters wheeled to the front to hold the line

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

The LRAD guy sounds scared

Clear and serious indications of kettling. The group is maintaining cohesion so far

— Laura Jedeed is Kind of Back I Guess (@LauraJedeed) June 26, 2020

And immediately another charge. Head-om running

Maybe they thought it would scatter us. It did not

It's been a while since I've seen looting, but it's also been a while since I've been tear gassed. Go figure

A Popeyes dumpster is on fire. If this was a video game there would definitely be a "find all the dumpster fires" sidequest

Seriously though, the worker is understandably put out. "What I'd like is for the fire dept to come, but I don't think we have one of those tonight"

Aaand I'm home. What a night!

Solidarity to everyone still out there
